Last night, the library hosted an author who came to talk about her book called The Secrets of Mary Bowser. The author, Lois Leveen, had me enamored. She was wonderful, passionate and kind. We chatted after and she very personally signed my copy of her book. I’ve never been one of those people who HAS to buy the special edition, extended ending, signed by the entire cast, kind of nerd. But I knew I wanted her signature. Anyway, her book is next on my list to read, right after I finish Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.
If I had to declare my major today, I would say Creative Writing with a minor in Gender Studies. I loved what Leveen said during one part of her speech "Make friends with the poets. They sure as hell know they aren't writing to make money... but they understand words have the power to touch people and change lives." Leveen’s passion fed my own passion, and I’ve decided to finish my short story (I can’t recall when I started it) by the end of this November. It’s not a novel but it’ll be my own NaNoWriMo (which I totally hate the concept of, yet here I am actually setting my first writing goal along the same premise). I have the power to touch people and change lives through poetry and deep characters in books that I'm not writting. So I better get to it and start writing!
This weekend is here by dedicated to math homework, music, reading and writing. I now knight thee weekend of rejuvenational continuation. I also declare “rejuvenational” as a word. Have a lovely weekend dear readers of my humble blog!
